Tooth-Colored Fillings
In the past, cavities would be treated using a combination of metals, called amalgam. The silver, reflective material would be placed in the cleaned-out, decayed part of the structure to keep it from spreading and protect the more vulnerable, inner portion of the tooth. Some unwanted effects of amalgam included heightened tooth sensitivity, a dark ring developing around the tooth, and of course, unwanted attention because it was so noticeable. Dr. Q uses a safe, biocompatible composite resin material to fill cavities without drawing attention to damaged teeth.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are customized caps that are designed to fit over the surfaces of misshapen or damaged molars. They sit above the gumline to provide teeth with added protection and a more even and natural appearance. Dr. Q crafts his crowns from high-quality, natural-looking materials that are built to stand the test of time, like porcelain and ceramic, so you can trust that your teeth are well-protected.
Root Canals
Oftentimes, people associate the reason why they need a root canal (a painful toothache) with the procedure itself, which is why so many patients are worried when they hear they need one. During this process, Dr. Q will remove the infected pulp from the inner chamber of the tooth and cleanse the inside, making sure no bacteria remain. Then, using a malleable substance called gutta-percha, he’ll restore the structure of your treated tooth before topping it off with a customized crown. Many patients can keep their natural, treated tooth for the rest of their life with proper maintenance!
Tooth Extractions
We’ll never recommend a tooth extraction unless we believe it’s necessary to maintain the health of your smile. Typically, if we do suggest this procedure, it’s due to deep decay, severe damage to a tooth, or because the tooth is dead. Once we remove the affected tooth, we’re able to keep the problem from spreading and replace it with a dental bridge or implant-retained crown to restore your smile!
